Progress tutorial feedback

Attendance - Very Good
Make sure you email if you are ill

Issues Raised
Software Skills - Upgrade photoshop
Time management - Time table my weeks

Blogs - Very good
PPD nice to see work from outside, but also need course structured PPD context. Inconsistent blogging frequency, though you seem to have that in hand now. Annotate all posts

Current Progress - Good / Very Good
Think about audiences outside of own demographic. Decision making, get active, away from computers to do some research.

Action Plan
Timetable and manage time more effectively - 1/11/2011
Placements over Christmas - After reading week

Progress

Attendance - Very Good
I have been going to set sessions but need to commit to getting in early and staying later. This applied to my commitment to outside of the studio, I need to take a more proactive approach to my self directed work and print research.

Blogs - Very Good
Blogging has been inconsistent this year, but has made significant improvements after a bad start, will start blogging tasks on the day so they don’t build up. The connections between print and context are now becoming much easier to deal with on my context now that I have started to understand and complete my own research to the different processes, this in turn should have a positive effect on my design work

My PPD blog is an area I want to maintain committed to this year, after working with a few clients over summer I want to keep up these relationships and expand my contacts within different industries.

Current Progress - Good
My strengths defiantly lie within software development, especially within illustrator but I need to maintain the same progression in Photoshop and InDesign.

One of the areas for improvement is defining a target audience, I will stop doing projects that simply interest me and start to think about what makes them interesting and why there interesting. This will expand my creative approach to design, as well as the range of graphic styles that I explore.

Need to maintain a more constructive and directed aproach with context and practice work.

Action Plan
Draw out a timetable and think about how to divide my time effectively and productively. This includes staying in late for at least two or more days a week.
- 1 / 11 / 2011

Make and distribute surveys and primary research to define my target audience for Vinyl project.
- 26 / 10 / 2011

Re-write rationale once I have completed the rest of my primary research with a defined target audience and finalised set of deliverables.
- 29 / 10 / 2011

Discuss and decide on appropriate print methods, thorough my blog and communication with peers, for my ‘What is Good’ deliverables. Think about printing alternative substrates such as vinyl and explore how I could use laser cutting in this project.
- 1 / 11 / 2011

Design layout-using InDesign for my print manual -  re-order the visual and contextual work. Think about printing for personal use in different formats – Posters (may end up cheaper than printing my own publication)
- 29 / 10 / 2011

Look for placements for over summer / possible Christmas and explore the role I want to take as a graphic designer

Feedback

Good is. . . . . . ? Concept Crit

Strengths
Good knowledge of subject details
Collected a lot of visual material / references
Good standing idea

Areas for Improvement
Target Audience
What exactly is going to be in the packs
Level of formality?

Comment on the extent to which the initial research and
development of the concept demonstrates a significant understanding
of the chosen subject matter.
- Very Good
- Primary research about 'Vinyl' experiences, what they felt / liked / thought
- Research if vinyl when and the variations / artwork etc incorporate that 'feel' and pleased
- Good concept - the feel and playing vinyl not just the physical objects, lots of research

Comment on the extent to which the concept proposal exploits the practical
and conceptual investigation and application of Design for Print...
- Good
- Look at ways to mimic the feel of a vinyl through print process and finishes
- Thermal raised inks / embossing. Can you print onto the vinyl

Comment on the proposed range of products to be produced in response
to a clearly identified problem...
- Satisfactory / Good
- Figure out what you want the final products to be. Be specific.
- One direction - formal or informal
- Need to define exactly what the final product will contain and what purpose each
thing will have.

Action Plan

Action - Research Vinyl Covers / artwork
Reason - To gain a better understandnig of the print and artwork format, to be able
to recreate 'that feel'

Action - Look at more packaging variety
Reason - Restriction to just a bag, be more ambitious Think about recreating
vinyl cover as a form of packaging.

Action - Try gathering / investigating all the things that make listening to Vinyl
good then package and promote (the dust, things that make it unique)
Reason - Focus more on your unique concept rather than a general overview of vinyl
