Enterprise Task 3.3

In relation to place having assessed my online presence I also need to think about the studio environment that I might work from, at the moment I have the Uni studios but when I leave I need to think about weather it would be economically viable for me to have a studio or if it would make more sense to work from home.

Seeing as I will be pretty broke and not necessarily have a massive amount of clients or work I don't think a studio would be necessary but it would be nice to have a physical presence in the real world to show people I am professional and employable. I could think about maybe asking some other designers working on a freelance basis if they would want to share a studio to save on costs or even work with another graduate and start my own design studio.

Enterprise 3.2

After thinking about printed media to send to my target audience (business cards / mailshots) I also need to think about my online presence. I am currently running on loads of different websites for photos / graphics / blogging. I need to make sure that the content of the websites will appeal to the music industry, this post is a brief summary of my current online presence and what links I would want to send out to possible employers...

My flickr serves as an online journal and storage space for all the photos that I take, also a nice place to source photos etc

Tumblr - www.matttuc.tumblr.com
My tumblr is a place where I can post all the images / things I find without having a running commentary, its basically my visual diary of primary and secondary resources. More of a personal blog that something to promote myself.

When I leave uni I will set up a completely new blog, where I will take elements of all my others and put into one single visual diary and link on my website.

Blogger - www.m-tucker1013.blogspot.com
After hours of fine tuning I am finally happy with all my course blogs (aesthetically and contextually) and feel that they are of a high enough quality to send to possible clients / employers.

It would be nice to have a summative homepage with images of all my final outcomes but this is something that I hope to cover on my website, but for the moment I think this is the best online presence to send out to people.

Behance - www.behance.net/matttuc
This is the closest thing I have to an online portfolio, but I have been through it and don't think some of the projects are reflective of my current design principles and are possibly a bit dated, so I will do some re-arranging and delete a few projects to make sure it is up to date and professional.

The two one I would ever send links to employers to are my course blogs and my behance, however by the end of this next module I want to have set up my own website with the url www.matttuc.co.uk (currently available) this will give me a clean space to display my work and I will need to think about how I can make it original and enticing.

Although I wouldn't send people links to the other websites, I always make sure that my online presence is kept professional and reflective of my design principles and characters so its nice to know I have consistent urls so people will associate all of them with me. I do however need to add my email to the websites to make sure people can get in contact away from the organised and sometimes very unprofessional world of online creative sites.

Enterprise Task 3.1

How will I promote myself?
I think my starting point for this work is to get some self promotion printed, as print is something that I really want to focus on in my work I think it is important to show off what I can already do. I will produce a mailshot and and mailing list of candidates who I think would be suitable future clients. I need to think about what principles as a designer that I want to promote as well as what the clients would want to hear.

My skills / interests in design
Colour // Type // Image // Layout // Screen // Print // Form follows function // Identity // Promotion

I could promote this but with a more playful and less formal approach, maybe including some of my interests outside of graphic design.
Things I like - Trainers // Type // Music // Identity // Print // Promotion // Colour // Books //

Business cards
As a graphic designer having a unique business card is an essential, I want to develop my own through the enterprise and PPD modules, before I start however here are a few examples to get me going...

Jan Sabach
Really simple, using an opaque stock and printing some graphic design essential information, not sure if this would be appropriate to my target audience but a beautiful design none the less.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The Dave & Alex Show
Despite the bad leading the choice of stock and clipped format are appropriate to the name of the agency applying the rules of form follows function. Also really like the print quality, again fitting with the retro ticket theme the textured print has a wonderful ephemera feel.

Paul Nielsen
Although its not particularly appropriate to my own business card design, thinking about alternative stocks and interesting ways of seeing the card is something I want to identity in my own work. The business card works on the principle thats its iledgible when its left static but when stretched you can read the trainers name, and the obvious reference to fitness and interaction between the card again shows how effective form follows function can actually be. However it is a shame that you need more than two hands to actually write down the number.

(post is getting a bit overcrowded I will start a new one.

Could be a nice format for a mailshot design, need to think about how I could adapt it to make it more my own. I also think studios and other possible client bases would be far more interested in something like this than a website or other online resources, however I could use a mailshot like this to send clients to look at my work online.
