Seeing as I have a broad knowledge of computers already this is going to be the easy part, I do not feel I need to complete any more research into them other than this list that will be included in the initial studio set up budget. With all the macs we will buy a 3 year apple-care plan and get them from the refurb store (using student discount).
I have done a fair bit of research into how much we would need to spend on a monitor to get the widest colour gamut, making the transition from screen to print as accurate as possible. Looked at online space but decided 2 hard drives was more than satisfactory.
27" iMac - 3.1GHz - £1500.00 budget
This computer would get kept free for working on software that usually requires using a larger screen.
15" Macbook Pro - £1000.00 Budget
This laptop would be shared and generally used if it was ever needed for presentations etc, also to take to clients for jobs and use around the studio.
Mac Pro - Quad Core - £2000.00 budget
I feel we need a computer that we know will always be reliable and we can keep clean / set up with the printer. But don't feel that a £4000.00 is necessary in the studios younger days but we wanted something that would last and be a worthwhile investment.
24" LaCie 324i - £1100.00 Budget (monitor)
Best screen we can in terms of colour gamut - rotations etc, but will continue exploring the lower budget screens.
LaCie d2 Quadra Hard Disk - £300 (for two) Budget (external hard drives)
These aren't particularly just for the space but as a double back up system to be run on each of the macs to make sure we don't make the mistake of losing any work.
