Entetrprise Task 2

Where are they – How will they find me?
Sticking with my previous statement about wanting to go into design for the music industry, I will think about a range of different client groups and studios within this area in relation to working on my own as a freelancer and finding studios with similar principles and aspirations as myself.

Economically upcoming music labels will be working on low budgets and will often rely on online / screen based resource. This means I will have to utilise the current screen based module and expand my skills in this area, especially when working on After Effects and other motion graphics software.

In terms of technology music is changing rapidly with itunes now being the most popular source of music and less need for physical prints so again utilising my skills in screen based design is something I need to work on.

Socially the music industry is very competitive and it usually makes it much easier knowing people so networking is going to be a significant part of the next few years. I am already in contact with a few record labels and again they are all on a reasonably low budget so I need to make sure I work out contracts and money with them before starting the project as I don't want to undermine the value of my work.

Politically speaking my work would have to remain relevant in terms of the messages being communicated and aesthetics of the design with the different brands current identities. I would need to think about how the work is perceived by others and how the artists / labels want to be perceived. This will be relevant in all stages of the design process from working in different styles / tones of voice and research methods.

Within music one of the main areas to get involved with is the music labels as well as individual artists as this is much more likley to result in ongoing work / branding / promotion. This is a brief list of companies that I could think about working with

This is just a brief list of record labels, I think I have been slightly narrow minded in relation to the genres of music I have been looking into and need to think about the music scene on more of a whole and how this will affect what skills I need to develop.

Record Labels
Audio Doughnuts
Already done some work for them but need to get back in contact and see what future work is available for me. I also need to re asses money and work out some contracts so that I am not just doing work for free.

Hyperdub
Reasonably large label but use a very different aesthetic and identity to the others I have been looking at, so a valuable resource for inspiration as well as a possible future client.

Ramp Records
Particularly keen on the diversity of the work produced for this label, with a variety of different producers and designers working for them they have a unique and

Swamp 81
Again uses a very different aesthetic to the style of my work but this was an area that I think needed the most improvement within my work giving me a diverse and appropriate portfolio.

Paradise
Again another up and coming night running in London with aspirations of becoming a record label in the near future.

Night Slugs
Another London based music label just emerging from its youth, I know a few designers that have worked with them and I am really keen on the work that they have been producing. They have taken a really individual approach to their branding and not gone for any specific style creating an individual and successful brand.
