List 5 transferable skills that you have developed. What have you used them for?
1. Time management
2. Presentation skills
3. Working with a group
4. Writing skills
5. Research skills
List 5 things you have achieved. How have they helped your progress?
1. Improved research skills, especially in the more practical areas, such as in collection 100 when I took apart the shoe. These methods have also helped keep me interested in the projects.
2. Consistent attendance and no un-necessary absences, helped me get as much work done while at uni as possible.
3. Improved knowledge of Adobe software, especially InDesign and Illustrator. This have saved me a lot of time and means I can finish my work to the best of my ability and to the highest quality possible.
4. Understanding of typography, contextually with areas such as terminology and origins of terms, and practically when using layouts and thinking about my choices and relevance of type.
5. Critical analysis and historical knowledge of graphic design, helped me analyse work on my context blog based on more than just the aesthetics of the work.
List 5 problems that you have had to face. How have you over come them?
1. Disputes within group projects - working through compromise and discussion making sure everyone is happy.
2. Finding work that interests me -exploring a range of different pieces of graphic design using books, internet magazines etc. Also exploring areas that I know very little about such as packaging or layout designs.
3. Working to one week briefs - Realised the importance of time and how much I can actually achieve in a week.
4. Juggling multiple briefs and module work - staying organised and used some basic skills learnt through time management such as planning out my day and setting myself a reasonable amount of work to do each day.
5. Getting stuck with repetitive research - Using a more practical approach such as in collection 100 brief.
List 5 facts that you have learned. When have they been useful?
1. When looking for a house try and live with people on the course and make sure that everyone is 100% committed. It hasn't been useful for my this year because we made the mistake of living with someone who isnt on the course but it will be when looking for a house next year.
2. Pantone books are ridiculously expensive but your best friend when you get into print. Collection 100 brief matching the colour with the trainers to a colour on the computer
3. Don't turn up to a crit without visuals to show - has been useful every crit since I turned up without the visual work as I gained feedback that lead to huge improvements on my projects.
4. Students are awful at turning the cooker hobs off - when coming home to a boiling kitchen and saved liberty park for catching fire.
5. There is a big difference between a fact and a statistic - particularly helpful in the early briefs but will continue to benefit a large amount of my work.
