Business Cards

Today was an exciting day as my business cards from the Print Project in Bradford arrived. They are letter-pressed using a polymer plate meaning I could have my own design but print it in the traditional way. The cards are printed on 700gsm colourplan in 4 colours — white, grey, purple and blue with a slight emboss on the lettering. Single sided x 300.

Represent Agency

I have been in touch with Represent, a London based agency and I will be meeting with them around D&AD time, when I take my portfolio down to London to see if I can get myself some more placements / job opportunities in following months.

Presentation Hand out

I came up with the concept of using a London Tube map for the visuals / mapping and structuring of my presentation. Its relevant as its a map, and graduating is a journey but also because I am going back down South. The stations have been renamed to work with my own planned career path. The hand out also featured my CV and a new set of symbols in the key as a guide to what each station and line was about. The design also follows the traditional method of the tube map with a piece of artwork. In this case the artwork was made from the new sets of symbols that I created for the key.

Structuring Presentation

As I have already had my concept sorted for the presentation I wanted to create a method of linking together all the sections across the different lines to cover the criteria in the presentation. I was however less direct with what I wanted to talk about as I found that got relatively repetitive and boring. I have realised that the planning and structure are far more important than the actual design...

Business Card Final!

I have finally sent of the design for my business cards to the printer. I am getting them done with Nick who I met at Leeds print festival who prints with letterpress process. Through what I have learnt about current letterpress printing is that you can use a polymer plate that allows you to create a design on the computer and leave only the printing up to Nick. This was a huge benifit for me as I wanted something personal with the quality and feel of Letterpress.

I have bought my new web domain and added it to the business cards with my new email

hi@matt-tucker.net

I also managed to swindle some nicer options for stocks, ordering some samples from GF Smith and using the cut offs that Nick had, meaning I got 300 business cards worth of stock for free!

Ratio:Studio Summary

Summary of where Ratio:Studio is at...

We have met some great people and producing work for Leeds print festival gave us some interesting contacts and set us both up with a placement. We have however both discussed the studio idea and realise the importance of being around people such as creative directors, senior designers and even middleweight designers. The fountain of knowledge that can still be gained outside of uni is immense and as ratio:Studio is something we hope to one day continue we feel it will be more beneficial to work with other people first and gain some individual experiences.

We hope to continue working on freelance briefs together under the ratio:studio name...

End of Year Show Pitch

The final pitch for the year — The end of year show! We will be finding out over the next few weeks...Would be a great brief to have in my portfolio as I am so interested in working with exhibition spaces and really considering the environment that people will peruse during their visit to the show.

Just Applied

Something I have wanted to do since second year summer but never got around the applying. I sent my portfolio and CV & I hear back from them on the 14th of May. I also slightly adapted my portfolio to make it more relevant to the course, took a few projects out and made it more type driven.

Website Layouts

I have been working with outlined boxes to try and understand the coding process for building a website. Although the coding aspect isn't my normal focus I feel its a valuable skill and something that will benifit how my website turns out. I have also managed to get hold of a few people who said they can aid the process with me. Its just a simple website containing a few selected works and a CV as I don't want to give away my whole portfolio and have nothing left to talk about during visits and interviews.
