Collective Studio

A small studio based in Switzerland with a focus on type design and print and consists of Larissa Kasper, Rosario Florio, Bureau Collective and Dominic Rechsteiner.

They offer stylised and fashionable design, often with custom type and alternative formats and stocks. The work utilises the empty space on the page, using simple pieces of type and illustrations to communicate the desired message. When a client chooses them for a project they know generally how the final outcome will look, which is something I could offer that this studio possibly couldn't.

I see design as a process of researching and designing, using appropriate type and methods of delivery. This makes me question that if one consistent style is used, does it compromise the appropriateness of design, and about relevant communication of the message being delivered.

Despite my differing view on the design process after looking at a variety of studios and seeing the work being produced outside of the UK I am keen to get a placement abroad to truly understand graphic design from a global perspective. I will carry on making lists of design studios to see who would be willing for me to come and get involved for a week or two. I think not only in relation to my aims as a designer but as a personal progression going to studios abroad and completing these trips on my own will broaden my creative horizons as an individual. I will however have to think about the economical factors and get some placements within the UK before any commitments abroad.
