After re-assessing the clients / places I wanted to work with / for, I think specifying to simply just 'the music industry' will limit the range of work that I am able to create and will not forfill my aims as a creative designer. After a brief discussion with a few class mates another area of interest is the fashion / retail industry. Some of the reasons for these
Fashion
"Fashion is a high-impact, fast-paced industry that demands an
aspirational visual message and requires constant reinvention. Graphic
design for fashion must represent the core values of the brand while
pushing boundaries and expectations." - Graphic Design In Fashion
- Always a high demand for new cutting edge design, especially in London and Europe where fashion is such a significant part of popular / elitist culture.
- Demand for well communicated efficient design, grid systems and clean type, all personal areas of interest.
- Personal interest in clothing, possible think about setting up a small clothing line allowing me explore my less commercial aims as a creative
Retail
- Growing interest in retail branding on a range of different scales from really small shops such as HIP or CHIMP to much larger operations like SIZE which is run by JD but both portray a very different set of values and different client groups
- Outside of clothing / fashion I am keen on branding for general retailers, they often have a strong idea of client base and demand complex identities that communicate what they have to offer.
- Retail often demands a large variety of deliverables, one of the main strengths within my work is my ability to apple designs to a range of different formats and mediums keeping them consistent but not to similar, communicating a brand through use of colour, type & image.
- Price - this is defiantly another influential factor for this area of design, with a much larger client base and variety of different demands there are more opportunities to make more money, but I don't want this to be the most influential factor towards my design.
