Key ----
Bold - Key points I have learnt this year
Italic - What images will be on the slides
Underline - Roughly what I will be saying / talking about
New paragraph = New slide
1. Research Research Research
Blogging - screen shot of my blog -
Blogging has broadened my knowledge of graphic design, and provides an organised archive making it easy to refer back to. I have been inconsistent at times but want to make sure that I keep my blogs up to date next year as well as trying to relate my context and practice more.
(No News) - Poster Designs - Image / type / type & Image
Learning about use the different forms of research I have collected, also focusing designs - persuade, inform, educate. Using factual / statistical information on the posters.
2. Think visually -
Visual Language - sketchbook work from 'what is a line?'
- I still enjoy drawing and I want it to play a larger role in my research and practice in second year
(Collection 100) - Image of the dissected trainer
Taking a physical hands on approach to research also gave me information visuals that you can't get off the internet, this moved my project in a completely different direction.
3. Group work is inevitable
Build - Identity for Print-Process - an online digital print shop, posters explain sizes etc...
"Crisp sleek design like this makes me think about the kind of agency I would like to work for when Im doing placements next year, what kind of design principles I have - what I want to look into next year - print methods, embossing, laser cutting"A key weakness of mine is working in a group because I am quite focused on set ideas, need to be more open and co-operative, collaborate rather than clash. Also need to concentrate on playing a role in the presentations...
Image of shop fronts - poster patterns
Shows that I can work in a group, strong research and a project that I was really pleased with. Strong and relevant contextual and visual references.
4. Everything matters -
Know your audience
I have learnt to define an audience and focus on them, and to think about how to address them through tone of voice, tense and relate through image.
Relevance between its context and appearance - SB Dunk Pro Book - 1985-2011
"I am really interested in seeing how the context of a design can be related through aesthetics, as well as the visual journey that gets designs to this point"
Image of the pantone match on the trainer // books opening up in opposite directions
"This photo shows how I have tried to apply similar principles to my own work, through type colour and form"
5. Enjoy what you do -
Bookfair - Poster and Image of screen printing
Started to take a visual and playful route on the design here, as well as exploring different print methods which is another area that I want to expand on next year. I found it interesting selling my work and thinking about environment and target audience.
